MONTELLO LAKE P&R DISTRICT: Montello Lake Aquatic Invasive Species Protection Project
The Montello Lake Protection & Rehabilitation District proposes to conduct an Aquatic Invasive Species control project that will accomplish the following goals:
1. Document the presence, density, frequency of occurrence of all plant species in rehabilitation zones before and after herbicide management, and at a suitable frequency as determined by the department.
2. Limit the growth of Eurasian watermilfoil and Curly-leaf pondweed in rehabailitation zones and reduce population density and frequency of occurrence by at least 80% in each project phase.
3. Stop the proliferation of invasive species by swiftly and selectively managing expanding beds and new areas of infestation.
4. Minimize the ecological impacts of Eurasian watermilfoil and Curly-leaf pondweed on Montello Lake and restsore the lake to a more natural state in terms of the aquatic plant community.
5. Control nuisance weed growth to facilitate reasonable public access and lake use; maintain the lake's peace and tranquility.
6. Protect ecologically sensitive areas and maintain a diversity of natiave plant species for habitat and water quality protection.
