YELLOW BIRCH CONSERVATION UNION: Yellow Birch Lake Comprehensive Management Plan, Phase II
The Yellow Birch Conservation Union will sponsor a two-phase project to complete a comprehensive lake management plan for Yellow Birch Lake. Activities for phase II include: a curly-leaf pondweed inventory by boat in spring 2005 including mapping if the plant is found; a comprehensive aquatic plant survey using the WI-DNR point-intercept methodology; development of recommendations regarding plant control to decrease nusance species while protecting valuable habitat for fish and wildlife; a comparison of the plant communities in Yellow Birch Lake with plant communities of other lakes in the ecoregion and state using the Floristic Quality Assessment (FQA). Products include: 1. Collect, map and analyze macrophyte survey data (electronic and hard copies to DNR) 2. Sets of voucher specimens from the macrophyte survey given to the DNR, Herbarium and Yellow Birch Conservation Union. 3. Article about project in Yellow Birch Conservation Union Newsletter 4. Yellow Birch Lake Comprehensive Management Plan Development Project Progress Report (at halfway point) 5. Lake management plan including implementation recommendations (including the above products and those in phase I) The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
