TOWN OF THREE LAKES: AIS Boat Inspection, Education & Rapid Response Projects

The Town of Three Lakes, in cooperation with the Three Lakes Waterfront Association will sponsor a project to implement a Clean Boat-Clean Waters program on the Three Lakes Chain. Association members will attend Clean Boat-Clean Waters training. Aquatic invasive species (AIS) handouts and signs specific to Three Lakes will be developed and displayed at local businesses. Educational and volunteer recruitment literature will be mailed to lake property owners and made available at local businesses and public events. The township will hire two volunteer coordinators to identify and train volunteers and maintain a 2005 boat landing volunteer inspection schedule. Inspections will take place during weekends and holidays. A power washer will be purchased and made available to inspectors. Policies and procedures for an AIS Rapid Response Plan and a Team will also be developed.

Products:

1) Inspectors will split 4000 hours between 12 Three Lakes Chain boat landings and the Burnt Rollways Dam (priority given to those with highest boating traffic).

2) AIS information booths will be set up at the Three Lakes Fun Fest (June), Fourth of July events, and Fireman's Picnic (August).

3) Weekly summaries from Form 3200-120 will be loaded into the WI-DNR website. Diaries will be retained for at least three years.

4) Inspectors will deliver suspected AIS to Rhinelander WDNR Service Center for vouchering.

5) An AIS Rapid Response Plan

6) A final report will be made available to the DNR, Oneida County Land Conservation Dept., local lake associations, districts, and other interested entities.
