WASHBURN COUNTY: Minong Flowage Vegetation & Sediment Assessment Project
The Washburn County Land and Water Conservation Department, in cooperation with the Minong Flowage Association, will conduct a Eurasian Milfoil and Native Vegetation Survey and a Sediment Assessment project on the Minong Flowage in Washburn and Douglas Counties. The presence of the exotic aquatic plant species "Eurasian Watermilfoil," was confirmed in the Minong Flowage in the fall of 2002. Activities involved with this project include; an aquatic plant distribution study conducted during the summer of 2003, a sediment collection and analysis study, an on-going information and education program, and a project report including a plant management plan. Specific deliverables for this project include; 1. Final technical report that addresses the findings of the lake sediment survey and a management plan. 2. Non-technical summary in a newsletter form that can be widely produced and distributed to lake users. 3. Present aquatic plant distribution data including native plant species and Eurasian Watermilfoil. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
