TOWN OF IRON RIVER: Long Lake AIS Monitoring & Education
The Town of Iron River, Bayfield Co. is sponsoring an aquatic invasive species (AIS) project on behalf of the Long Lake Property Owners Association which includes watercraft inspection at two landings on the lake, in-lake monitoring for AIS, and education of lake residents, lake users, and the surrounding area.
Methods include establishing a volunteer watercraft inspection program in accordance with WI-DNR and UW-Ext. Lakes "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" guidelines. It also includes in-lake monitoring for AIS via samples collected by volunteers and lake residents. Educational and informational materials will be distributed to a diverse audience including lake groups, businesses, landowners, lake users, and others via in-person delivery, mailings, phone calls, and word of mouth.
