TOWN OF LAKE TOMAHAWK: Lake Tomahawk Management Plan Phase II

The Town of Lake Tomahawk is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning grants to study Lake Tomahawk with a study completion date of December 31, 2008. The Tomahawk Lake Property Owners Association is a project partner. Phases I and II are detailed within this project, while Phase III will be applied for in the February 2007 grant cycle. Phases I and II will focus on developing an Aquatic Plant Management (APM) Plan. Phase III will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP). Completion of a LMP will allow for potential Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) cost sharing grants and permits for Eurasian water-milfoil (EWM) control. Project activities for Phases I and II include: 1) Project kick-off meeting and data review 2) Develop project steering committee 3) Develop public questionnaire and prepare newsletter article 4) Water quality sampling following Citizen Lake Monitoring Network protocols (Secchi, P, Chla, N, DO, Temp, Alk, Cond, and pH) 5) Point-intercept (PI) survey of aquatic plants with 2 sets of pressed plants 6) Fishery analysis and evaluation 7) Watershed and land use analysis 8) Reconnaissance of near lake area and shoreline survey 9) Develop APM plan Project deliverables for Phases I and II include: 1) Formation of steering committee 2) Public questionnaire and newsletter article 3) Maps of shoreline survey, near lake area and watershed 4) 2 sets of pressed aquatic plants (one set for lake group and second for Dept) 5) APM.
