BIG PORTAGE LAKE RIPARIAN OWNERS ASSOCIATION: Big Portage Lake Stewardship Program

Big Portage Lake Riparian Owners Association is sponsoring a Lake Planning grant project to study Big Portage Lake, in Vilas County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP).

Project activities include: 1) Gather and assess existing lake info; 2) Volunteer frog and toad monitoring and angler\2019s journal program; 3) PI aquatic plant survey, community and substrate mapping and analysis; 4) Watershed assessment, riparian habitat assessment and water quality assessment; 5) Rare species assessment and fisheries assessment; 6) AIS monitoring; 7) Educational program \2013 lake user survey, meetings, newsletter articles, \201Cfloating\201D workshop, and press releases; 8) Develop LMP.

Project deliverables include: 1) PI, lake user survey, water quality, rare species, frog and toad, angler\2019s journal, AIS, riparian habitat, and watershed data; 2) Aquatic plant community and substrate maps; 3) Aquatic plant vouchers; 4) Education materials; 5) LMP.

Specific conditions for this project: 1) Draft of lake user survey needs to be submitted to Lakes Management Coordinator for review and approval before sending to public; 2) LMP needs Dept review and approval.

WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of reports, PI, stakeholder survey, water quality, watershed, AIS, riparian habitat, rare species, frog and toad and angler data, a set of aquatic plant vouchers, all maps from project, and all GIS data.
