PIONEER LAKE ASSOCIATION: Comprehensive Lake Management Planning for Pioneer Lake

Pioneer Lake Association is sponsoring a large-scale lake planning grant to study Pioneer Lake, in Vilas County, with a study completion date of December 31, 2021. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) in combination with data collection efforts of Vilas County Land and Water staff (VC).

Activities:

1) Citizen participation \2013 lake user survey, charrette and planning meetings (6)

2) Water quality sampling (VC and volunteers) and watershed assessment

3) Early detection AIS survey (VC)

4) Shoreland and Coarse Woody Habitat assessment (VC)

5) Collect and synthesize existing lake data

6) Aquatic plant surveys (PI survey (VC), community mapping and substrate mapping)

7) Data analysis and develop LMP

Project deliverables include:

1) Lake user survey and charrette information

2) Water chemistry data

3) Watershed maps and modeling data

4) PI, shoreland and woody habitat data

5) Aquatic plant community and AIS maps

6) LMP

Specific project conditions:

- Draft of stakeholder survey and charrette need Dept review and approval

- Draft of LMP needs Dept review and approval

WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of LMP, lake user survey, charrette information, data from PI survey, shoreland assessment, woody habitat assessment, watershed assessment and water quality sampling, all maps from project, and all GIS data.
