SPIDER CHAIN OF LAKES ASSOCIATION: Spider Lake

The Spider Chain of Lakes Association (SCLA) is sponsoring a two-year Yellow Flag Iris response on the Spider Chain. Project activities include: 1) Take Action! YFI Campaign at the 2019 annual association meeting; 2) Distribution of AIS educational materials to riparian property owners and other stakeholders through a variety of methods; 3) Creation of education materials for youth education program in collaboration with the Cable Natural History Museum; 4) Train the trainers program for YFI removal; 5) Removal of YFI from designated sites and replanting of native species where appropriate; 6) Attendance at the Wisconsin Lakes Convention and Northwest Lakes Conference both years; 7) Development of a guide for activities to remove YFI based on project experiences; 8) Written annual project reports.

Project deliverables include: 1) Summary of educational efforts - listing number of participants and dates of any workshops held, copies of any materials/presentation developed and distributed 2) Annual summary comparing pre and post-removal at each site, including initial size of YFI areas, estimated density of plants at each site, management technique used, # of volunteers, # of hours spent on control, amount of YFI removed, # of native species planted, and photos of sites comparing each year; 3) Copy of a strategies guide of lessons learned from the project; 4) A final project report

Specific conditions for this project: A chemical aquatic plant management permit should be applied for if management includes herbicide treatment. This scope is intended to summarize the detailed project scope provided in the application and does not supersede those application tasks/deliverables. WDNR Lake Biologist will be provided with an electronic copy of data, records, and reports in a format specified by the Biologist, including GIS-based maps and digital images.
