TOWN OF BARNES: Tomahawk & Sand Bar Lakes EWM Research Project
The Town of Barnes in partnership with the WDNR, US Army Corps of Engineers, and volunteers is sponsoring a multi-year research and demonstration project on Tomahawk and Sand Bar Lakes, Bayfield County focusing on treatment of Eurasian Watermillfoil (EWM). The initial and primary control activity will be large-scale application of 2,4-d herbicide to Tomahawk Lake with Sand Bar Lake serving as a no-treatment reference lake. Follow up management will utilize a suite of best management practices, depending on the EWM and lake conditions. The project includes comprehensive study design with frequent monitoring and a sociological component, including limiting recreational use impacts on the lake(s).
