LAKE NOKOMIS CONCERNED CITIZEN'S INC.: Lake Nokomis Management Planning Project, Phase I
Lake Nokomis Concerned Citizens, Inc. is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning grants to study Lake Nokomis, in Lincoln County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Lake Nokomis. Completion of a LMP will allow for potential Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) cost sharing grants and permits for Eurasian water-milfoil (EWM) control. Phases 1 and 2 were funded in this grant cycle (Feb 2010) and Phase 3 will be submitted for funding in August 2010.
Phase 1 project activities include: 1) Stakeholder participation \2013 kick-off newsletter article; 2) Shoreline assessment; 3) Water quality sampling and analysis (Secchi, P, Chla, DO, temp, N, conductivity, pH, Alk, suspended solids, and Calcium); 4) Watershed assessment and P load modeling; 5) Fisheries assessment; 6) Volunteer AIS monitoring; 7) Professional Dreissena monitoring.
Project deliverables include: 1) Newsletter article; 2) Shoreland and water chemistry data; 3) Watershed maps and modeling data.
WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and newsletter article, data from watershed assessment, shoreland assessment, and water quality sampling, all maps from project, and all GIS data.
