CALLAHAN LAKE PROTECTIVE ASSOCIATION, INC: Callahan/Mud EWM Control 2011-2013
The Callahan Lake Protective Association is sponsoring a project in cooperation with Sawyer County Land Conservation Department to implement management actions listed in their approved Aquatic Plant Management plan (2009).
Eurasian water-milfoil (EWM) was discovered in 2005 and there is approximately 30 acres within the 585 combined lake acreage. Treatments have occurred in 2008 (rapid response) and 2010 with good success.
Project goals includes: 1) Conduct an early season herbicide treatment on 18 acres of EWM on Callahan/Mud Lake in 2011 and 2012 to control the spread; 2) Placement of educational signs at all boat landings; 3) Conduct pre/post monitoring the EWM throughout the year to determine efficacy of the herbicide treatment; 4) Mapping of EWM beds; 5) Educate lake association members about EWM, herbicide treatments, other control measures through newsletter articles, kiosks and trainings (Lake Excursion Day); 6) Clean Boats/Clean Waters (CB/CW)
