PORTERS LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT: Porter's Lake Monitoring & Prev.
Porters Lake Management District proposes to conduct education, prevention and planning activities to control and prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) into Porters Lake during the period of 2011-2013. The project elements and deliverables are specified in Porters Lake Aquatic Invasive Species Grant application, dated 7/24/11.
The project incluldes the following: monitoring, education, shoreline restoration and boat landing modifications. The Porters Lake group will participate in the Fourth of July Landing Blitz, install new State AIS signs, provide garbage cans and a boat wash at their landing. Monitoring will be conducted by SCUBA surveys and by trained lakes people. 200 hours of CBCW will be conducted per year. Watercraft inspection and Citizen Lake Monitoring records will be entered into the State's online Watercraft Inspection Database (SWIMS). Porters Lake group will continue their biocontrol efforts to control purple loostrife around the lake and start working on shoreline restoration as outlined in their deliverables. This grant project will also develop an updated lake management plan.
