UNIFIED LOWER EAGLE RIVER CHAIN OF LAKES COM: Eagle River Chain of Lakes AIS Porject, Phase 5
The Unified Lower Eagle River Chain of Lakes Commission (ULERCLC) is sponsoring an AIS grant on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes. This is the fifth phase of a project focusing on EWM management, AIS education, prevention and monitoring. The goal is to reduce the treatable EWM to half its current size and allow the ULERCLC to continue management on its own.
Project activities: 1) Annual chemical treatments of EWM and residual monitoring; 2) Volunteer hand removal of EWM as an experimental control technique; 3) Annual Pre and Post treatment monitoring and analysis; 4) Annual volunteer AIS monitoring; 5) PL mapping and control; 6) PI surveys and aquatic plant community mapping; 7) Recruit volunteers and implement a CB/CW program; 8) Stakeholder participation: CB/CW training, budget and grant meeting, project status/informational meeting; 9) Entry of inspection and monitoring forms onto SWIMS; 10) Develop management strategy (working with UW Ext) to protect native plants; 11) Develop annual and final project reports.
Project deliverables include: 1) Chemical and hand removal control of EWM and PL control; 2) Pre and post treatment survey and residual monitoring data; 3) Entered inspection and monitoring data into SWIMS; 4) A minimum of 400 hours of CB/CW; 5) PI data; 6) Aquatic plant community and substrate maps; 7) Aquatic plant vouchers; 8) Native plant protection strategy; 9) AIS educational, prevention and monitoring activities; 10) Final report summarizing EWM management during project and future EWM management suggestions, CB/CW activities, AIS monitoring and AIS educational activities.
Specific Conditions: Final report needs Dept review and approval.
WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of final report, all annual reports, pre and post treatment survey and PI data, native plant protection strategy, samples of educational and outreach products, all maps from project, all GIS data, and aquatic plant vouchers.
