LAKE REDSTONE PROTECTION DISTRICT: APM Plan & AIS Education

The Lake Redstone Protection District will develop an aquatic plant management (APM) plan for Lake Redstone using DNR approved methods. Survey results from 2012 found 8 native species which need to be protected, and several invasive species, one of which has reached nuisance levels, and needs to be managed. Information about strategies to accomplish plant management goals will be shared via public meetings, and the plan will incorporate informed public input that results. In addition, a multi-faceted AIS education project will be carried out, with volunteers conducting at least 200 hours of Clean Boats Clean Waters inspections at boat landings. Resulting data will be entered into the DNR database. Volunteers will monitor the lake for exotic species, map curlyleaf pondweed beds in early spring, and the District will sponsor a public education event to share information about topics such as AIS, lakeshore restoration, and water quality. Results of the APM plan and AIS Education project will be presented to the community at a public meeting and to DNR via a final report.
