TOWN OF SAINT CROIX FALLS: Deer Lake Invasive Species Education & Prevention

The Town of St. Croix Falls is sponsoring a three year aquatic invasive species education project on behalf of Deer Lake in Polk County. The project includes hiring an intern to develop and implement a watercraft inspection program based on the State of Wisconsin Clean Boats Clean Waters program over a three year period. Project objectives include inspecting watercraft at public access sites, educating residents and visitors regarding identification, threats, and control of aquatic invasive species, and monitoring for the presence of Eurasian Water Milfoil, Purple Loostrife, and other aquatic invasive species. Also included is a whole lake plant survey specifically to document if Curley Leaf Pondweed has spread beyond the boundaries established in 2003, and if it seems to have negatively impacted the native plant species present in 2003.
