BUFFALO LAKE PROTECTION & REHAB DISTRICT: Buffalo Lake District
The goal of this project is to protect, restore and expand the lotus beds on Buffalo Lake. The lotus beds are important to Buffalo because they can effectively block invasive plant colonization, hold sediment in place, clarify the water, provide excellent fish habitat, increase eco-tourism and provide a valuable aesthetic beauty. Project activities include: 1) Inform public of the existence of sensitive habitat areas; 2) Install informational signs at boat launches and informational buoys around the lotus beds; 3) Lotus re-seeding Project deliverables include: 1) Pictures of signs and buoys on the lake; 2) map of current lotus beds and areas of re-seeding.
