Impaired Water Notes
Addition based on new data. Removal of chronic toxicity as a pollutant (listed in 1998) is a correction. Add sediment as pollutant and degraded habitat as impairment. Remove chronic toxicity - this is from an historical fish kill with no repeat activity.
Waxdale Creek was listed on the Impaired Waters list for chronic aquatic toxicity due to point and nonpoint source discharges. The files indicate one fish kill investigation from August 1983, where over 14,000 fish were documented killed. The kill was attributed to a spill from a business discharging to Waxdale Creek. The exact agent causing the kill was not specifically determined, but the toxicity was acute, and not chronic. No other fish kill documents were found. The attached stream classification survey (1993) noted chronic water quality and habitat problems from nonpoint source runoff. We could find no evidence that other sampling efforts have been conducted on this waterbody.
