Impaired Water - Mason Lake (Mason Lake)
Adams, Marquette County, Wisconsin
UF14
175700
881.61
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Mason Lake was originally listed in 2002 due to eutrophicaton and elevated pH impairments of the fish and aquatic life use caused by total phosphorus.

Evaluations every two-year cycle from 2012 to 2024 confirmed elevated phosphorus and algal levels. This water is covered by the Upper Fox & Wolf River Basins TMDL, approved by the US EPA on February 27, 2020

Impaired Water Notes
Mason Lake was also indicated as "eutrophic" based on the 2010 Lakes Assessment methodology.
Date

Impaired Water Notes
Originally listed for violations of pH water quality standards, eutrophication
from nutrients, algae blooms from nonpoint sources.

Mason Lake has been monitored as an ambient lake since 1986. Water quality monitoring during this time has found pH at or above 9.0 on five occasions. These elevated pH levels have been documented in 1986, 1992 and 1997 and include both field and laboratory pH readings.

Mason Lake should be added to the 303d impaired waters list due to frequent pH exceedances and eutrophication.
