Impaired Water - Ashwaubenon Creek (Ashwaubenon Creek)
Brown County, Wisconsin
LF01, LF02
122200
0.00 - 14.15
14.15
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Ashwaubenon Creek was put on the Impaired Waters List in the 2008 cycle for phosphorus and sediment as pollutants; DO and degraded habitat as impairments. This water is part of the Lower Fox River TP & TSS TMDL that was approved by the EPA in 2012.

This segment of Ashwaubenon Creek was evaluated every two-year cycle from 2012 to 2024; elevated phosphorus levels were confirmed in several cycles. Biological communities, bugs and fish, were found to be in good condition.

Impaired Water Notes
The Lower Fox River Basin TP and TSS TMDL was approved by the U.S. EPA on May 18, 2012. The TMDL covers 27 waterbody segments impaired by total phosphorus and 18 waterbodies impaired by TSS for a total of 45 TMDLs. These TMDLs address degraded habitat, low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), eutrophication, and turbidity impairments.

Impaired Water Notes
The streams bottom material consists of rubble, gravel, and silt. Ashwaubenon Creek is sluggish and turbid and has little fishery value. In the agricultural areas the stream banks and hills are ba~e and erosion is heavy
due to cattle pasturing. In the residential areas of DePere the stream
is filled with litter and debris.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2016 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use and biological impairment was observed (i.e. at least one macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the poor condition category).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceed 2020 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish Aquatic Life use
