Impaired Water - Mud Creek (Mud Creek)
Outagamie, Winnebago County, Wisconsin
LF04, LF06
129500
0.00 - 3.71
3.71
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This segment of Mud Creek was identified as impaired in 1998 for suspended sediment causing degraded habitat. During the 2008 assessment cycle impairment by high phosphorus levels was identified. These two listings are covered by the Lower Fox River TP & TSS TMDL, approved by the EPA in 2012.

During the 2016 cycle chloride was identified as a pollutant causing aquatic toxicity for organisms in the stream. The 2020 cycle assessment confirmed the phosphorus and chloride impairments. The 2022 and 2024 cycles again confirmed the phosphorus listing with new data.

Impaired Water Notes
The Lower Fox River Basin TP and TSS TMDL was approved by the U.S. EPA on May 18, 2012. The TMDL covers 27 waterbody segments impaired by total phosphorus and 18 waterbodies impaired by TSS for a total of 45 TMDLs. These TMDLs address degraded habitat, low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), eutrophication, and turbidity impairments.
Date
5/25/2012

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceed 2020 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category). Temperature was assessed and found to be appropriate for Aquatic Life use. Chloride was also assessed and found to exceed 2020 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use. Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.
