Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
As part of the Fox River, Neenah Slough has been impaired for PCBs in fish tissue since the 1998 assessment cycle. Elevated phosphorus and low DO were also identified in 1998. Neenah Slough was evaluated every two-year cycle from 2012 to 2024; the phosphorus listing was confirmed. Temperature, chloride, fish, and bug data indicated good conditions.Pollutant

Impaired Water Notes
The Lower Fox River Basin TP and TSS TMDL was approved by the U.S. EPA on May 18, 2012. The TMDL covers 27 waterbody segments impaired by total phosphorus and 18 waterbodies impaired by TSS for a total of 45 TMDLs. These TMDLs address degraded habitat, low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), eutrophication, and turbidity impairments.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2014 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2016 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceeded 2020 WisCALM listing criteria for the Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category). Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2022 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceeded 2022 WisCALM listing criteria for the Aquatic Life use, however, available fish and macroinvertebrate data do not indicate impairment. Based on the most updated information, no change in existing impaired waters listing is needed.
