Outagamie County, Wisconsin
LF05
409700
25.69 - 32.90
7.21
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This segment of Duck Creek was put on the Impaired Waters List during the 1998 cycle for phosphorus and sediment. This water is part of the Lower Fox River TP & TSS TMDL that was approved by the EPA in 2012. Phosphorus was consistently elevated in assessments from 2012 to 2024.

This segment of Duck Creek was listed for mercury in fish tissue from the 1998 to 2020 cycles.

Impaired Water Notes
The Lower Fox River Basin TP and TSS TMDL was approved by the U.S. EPA on May 18, 2012. The TMDL covers 27 waterbody segments impaired by total phosphorus and 18 waterbodies impaired by TSS for a total of 45 TMDLs. These TMDLs address degraded habitat, low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), eutrophication, and turbidity impairments.

Mileage segments must change to reflect that some of this stream is in tribal territory. Miles 0-4.96 can stay on the list; miles 4.96-25.69 are on the reservation so cannot be on Wisconsin’s list. Miles 25.69 - 32.9 are impaired. Miles 32.9-39.82 are not impaired.

Impaired Water Notes
This listing was part of a set removed from the impaired waters list due to a change in fish consumption advisory levels in 2001. In 2001 Wisconsin DNR put into effect a statewide fish consumption advisory for mercury due to atmospheric deposition. Most of the lakes removed from the specific fish consumption advisories list in 2001 were not removed from the impaired waters list even though the thresholds had changed. For the 2020 assessment process WDNR requested delisting of 91 waters with residual mercury listings from prior to 2001. This request was approved by US EPA.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).
