Impaired Water - Lake Desair (Lake Desair)
Barron County, Wisconsin
LC10
2104500
79.48
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This water was originally listed in 1998 due to eutrophication impairment caused by excess total phosphorus and TSS.

Desair Lake was evaluated for phosphorus and algae every two years between 1998 and 2024. Phosphorus levels were found to be too high, which was reflected in algal blooms. This lake is covered by a restoration plan: A Water Quality Strategy for the Land and Waters of the Red Cedar River Basin Nine Key Plan (expires 2026).

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2012 listing cycle, and total phosphorus sample data exceed 2012 WisCALM listing criteria for the fish and aquatic life and recreation uses. Chlorophyll data from the period 2006-2010 did not exceed listing thresholds for either the fish and aquatic life or recreation uses, as per 2012 WisCALM. However, review of recent and historic chlorophyll data and user perception survey results confirm the recreation use impairment (91% of samples from the past ten years exceeded the listing threshold of 10ug/L).
