Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This stream was originally listed as impaired in 2010 due to elevated total phosphorus and sediment/TSS concentrations.
This water was assessed during the 2012 listing cycle, and total phosphorus sample data exceed 2012 WisCALM listing criteria for the fish and aquatic life use, and biological impairment was observed (i.e. at least one macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the poor condition category).
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; phosphorus sample data nearly exceeded (May Exceed) 2014 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Fish and Aquatic Life use and biological sample data, macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI), scores indicate impairment.
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2016 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use and biological impairment was observed (i.e. at least one macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the poor condition category). This water was also assessed for temperature and sample data did not exceed 2016 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use.
This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceed 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use and biological impairment was observed (i.e. at least one macroinvertebrate and fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the poor condition category).Pollutant

Impaired Water Notes
Proposing to list Little Bear Creek in 2010 due to degraded habitat, temperature and eutrophication. Fish and macroinvertebrate data in general were very poor to poor between 2007-2008. 5 out of 6 TP samples over a 6 month period collected by USGS exceeded 0.075 mg/l. 2007 Temperature 11% of 17 mean daily samples taken in June and August exceeded 73 F(22.7 C). Stream ditching, channelization, and moving the stream out of the original banks has likely increased sediment problems in areas of flat topography where silt settles out. The stream has good permanent flow from large springs in the upper watershed. There are deep enough runs in some segments to support cold water game fishes. However, much of the riparian corridor is either cropped or pastured, with large dairy operations close to the stream, and grazing in wetland areas all along the stream corridor. There is lack of fish holding and lack of instream habitat, and lack of riffle/pool/runs from stream channelization. In addition, some wetlands have been drained through ditching, also contributing sediment, and phosphorus from agricultural lands.

Impaired Water Notes
Based on the total phosphorus criteria excursions and the corroborating biological assessment, “degraded biological community” impairment was added to the existing impaired water listing in 2012.
