Impaired Water - Lake Hallie, Lake Hallie 2 (Hallie Lake)
Chippewa County, Wisconsin
LC18
2150200
78.64
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Lake Hallie has been on the 303d List since 1998. Lakes Natural Community Assessment resulted in a "good" value for fish and aquatic life generally although the lake is listed for eutrophication. The Lake has suffered from eutophication and elevated pH levels due to excess phosphorus levels and the aquatic habitat is further impaired by total suspended solids.

This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus and chlorophyll sample data clearly met 2014 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use.

This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus and chlorophyll sample data were clearly below 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use.

This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus and chlorophyll sample data were clearly below 2018 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and the Fish and Aquatic Life use.

Assessments of new total phosphorus and chlorophyll data during the 2020 listing cycle show these parameters are in good condition for Aquatic Life and Recreation uses according to 2020 WisCALM standards for these uses.

Impaired Water Notes
From 1998 list: pH, Sedimentation. From 2001 Basin Report: Sedimentation, DO, Habitat, Algae, Macrophytes, Eutrophication from excess Nutrients due to Urban Runoff, Development, also Curly Leaf Pondweed.
Monitoring: Monthly Monitoring 1991 and 2001; 1 pH violation out of 10 summer samples. Dissolved Oxygen Problem was a winter DO problem, aeration installed. May want to consider listing due to loss of spring flow (due to development) contributing to loss of two-story fishery.

Impaired Water Notes
New fish tissue analysis showed no need for specific fish consumption advisories for this waterbody. This mercury listing was proposed for removal from the impaired waters list in 2008.
