This portion of Silver Creek was listed for sediment, degraded habitat, and high temperature in 1998. A 2018 evaluation of phosphorus and biology showed potential poor fish community, but further sampling is needed. In the 2020 evaluation temperature levels were low enough for removal of this impairment. For the 2024 cycle new data indicated no additional impairments.
This water is covered by the Upper Fox & Wolf River Basins TMDL, approved by the US EPA on February 27, 2020. This water is on the Waters In Restoration List.Pollutant

Impaired Water Notes
The dam in Ripon causes very heavy slime growth below the dam during warm periods of the year as well as eliminates fish migration resulting in several related problems like clam distribution and migration of trout. It also causes excessive warming. Silver Cr. has been classified Class II trout water from the Origin down to the impoundment.

This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; temperature sample data were clearly below 2020 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Aquatic Life use. The "Elevated Temperature" impairment was removed in the 2020 cycle.
