Impaired Water Notes
Silver Lake was placed on the impaired waters list, in 1998, for a “Chronic Aquatic Toxicity” impairment with an unknown responsible pollutant. Local resident questioned Silver Lakes placement on the 303(d) list for chronic aquatic toxicity and requested WDNR provide information on the 303(d) listing. WDNR could find no data to support the 1998 toxicity listing and agreed to conduct two ambient toxicity tests in 2010 to either confirm the impaired listing or provide enough data to recommend removing Silver Lake from the impaired waters list.
The State Lab of Hygiene conducted two toxicity tests on ambient water collected from Silver Lake on 8/10/10 and 10/27/10 and no toxicity was observed. These results, along with the fact that Silver Lake is fully supporting its FAL designated use, led central office to conclude that the chronic aquatic toxicity impairment for Silver Lake should be delisted. The results of these tests can be found in the SWIMS database. The information was sent to West Central Region for an impaired water assessment. DNR West Central Region staff recommended Silver Lake be delisted (5-04-2011).
