Impaired Water - Red Cedar River (Red Cedar River)
Dunn County, Wisconsin
LC04
2063500
16.48 - 18.80
2.32
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This segment of the Red Cedar River was evaluated for phosphorus and biology in 2014, 2016, 2020,, 2022, and 2024. Phosphorus levels were found to be too high, confirming the 1998 phosphorus listing. Chloride levels were appropriately low. This water is covered by a restoration plan: A Water Quality Strategy for the Land and Waters of the Red Cedar River Basin (expires 2026).

Correction to an omission. This area covers the same area as Lake Menomin.

Impaired Water Notes
Agricultural nonpoint sources and stormwater are contributing large amounts of sediment and nutrients which are impairing habitat and water quality. Large volumes of sediments and nutrients are entering the river with storm water runoff from Rice Lake and burying coarse rock rubble substrates and causing trophic cascade reactions that will impact the river far downstream.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2014 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, no biological data (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scores) were available to assess biological impairment).
