Impaired Water - Wolf River (Wolf River)
Chippewa, Clark County, Wisconsin
LC17
2146000
6.58 - 15.63
9.05
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This segment of the Wolf River was evaluated for phosphorus and biology in 1998, 2008, 2014, and 2018. This river is listed for high phosphorus levels and low dissolved oxygen levels. This water is covered by a restoration plan: Healthy Soils and Healthy Waters: A Community Strategy for the Eau Claire River Watershed (expires 2027). New water quality data reviewed in the 2024 cycle indicated no additional pollutants.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).

Impaired Water Notes
Continuous dissolved oxygen monitoring was completed at three locations on the Wolf River for one week in August 2007. Dissolved oxygen concentrations fell below 5 mg/L at all the sites. Streamflow was barely detectable at the two upper sites as a result of drought conditions that had persisted for the past few years. Streamflow increased at the lower site from effluent discharged by the Stanley treatment plant. The oxygen levels in the stream increased as a result of good effluent quality and the higher volume of water likely increasing aeration. Lower extent of impairment unknown. Monitoring the past few years indicates the impaired which would not extend below the River Road Crossing. Additional monitoring should be completed to determine the extent of the impairment below CTH MM.
