Impaired Water Notes
Holmes Avenue Creek is impaired due to substantial loads of Fecal Coliform causing recreational restrictions. .About 60% of the Fecal Coliform loads are of unknown origin and could be from illicit connections or leaking sewers. Fecal Coliform concentrations exceed 400 cfu/100 ml 28% of time annually (mean 5158 cfu/100 ml) and 14% seasonally (mean 2162 cfu/100 ml). Even though a large percentage of the watershed drainage is impervious, measures are being taken by the Southeastern Wisconsin Watersheds Trust to demonstrate effectiveness on nonpoint source control measures to the Holmes Avenue Creek as it is part of the KK watershed. In addition, it is possible that the channel lining at some point in time may be removed to return the creek to a more natural condition after downstream channel obstructions and habitat problems are addressed.
