POLK COUNTY: Loveless Lake Water Quality & Biological Assessment Project

Purpose

The Polk County Land & Water Resources Department will conduct a comprehensive lake management planning project involving a study and evaluation of Loveless Lake in Polk County. Project activities include; conducting an in-lake water quality monitoring survey, conducting algae and zooplankton surveys, conducting a macrophyte aquatic plant survey, conducting a shoreland terrestrial vegetation survey, conducting an inventory of exotic species, conducting assessments of benthic macroinvertabrates and shoreline coarse woody habitat areas, conducting lake level and precipitation monitoring, conducting lake nutrient modeling, and conducting an on-going public participation, media involvement , and information and education program. The project data will be utilized to generate a final project report with management recommendations. Specific deliverables for this grant project include: * A comprehensive final report listing all project activities and results. Special conditions for this grant project include: 1. The macrophyte survey must be conducted to specifications provided by the Dept. of Natural Resources. Mr. Frank Koshere from our Superior Office should be contacted and will provide the current standard specifications. 2. The macrophyte survey report shall incorporate any "sensitive area designations" that may be available for Loveless Lake. Mr. Jim Cahow from the Barron Office should be contacted for this information. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
