The objectives of this study were to characterize existing lake conditions and to make recommendations to protect and improve the lake environment where feasible.
Grant Awarded
The Lake Nancy Protective Association, Inc. will conduct a comprehensive study project involving lake water quality monitoring, aquatic plant survey, watershed analysis & nutrient budget development, shoreland survey, milfoil weevil evaluation, development of an information and education program, and the development of a comprehensive lake management plan. This project is on Nancy Lake in Washburn County. Ongoing project activities will be disseminated via newsletter(s), meeting(s), and final report mailings.
Specific deliverables for this grant project will include:
* A final report compiling all information collected during the project activities listed above and including an aquatic plant management plan and a comprehensive lake management plan.
Special conditions for this grant project will include:
1. The aquatic plant survey must be conducted utilizing methodogy approved by the Department of Natural Resources, such as described in the reference work by Jessen and Lound (1962).
2. The implementation of any chemical herbicide aquatic plant treatment in Nancy Lake will be suspended during the season in which the aquatic plant survey will be conducted as a part of this planning grant project.
The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
