The Lake Altoona District has an active history of lake protection. Numerous research studies, sponsoring Lake Improvement projects, and undertaking a major dredging project (1996-1997) are some of their accomplishments. They currently are having the Army Corps of Engineers undertake a Limnological Assesment of Lake Altoona.
