LONG LAKE PROTECTION AND MANAGEMENT DISTRICT: Long Lake Phase III, Water Quality, Level, Precip, Survey

Purpose

The Long Lake Protection & Rehabilitation District proposes to conduct a four phase comprehensive lake water quality monitoring, tributary monitoring, sociological survey, watershed evaluation, plant survey, and hydrologic and phosphorus budget study of Long Lake in Polk County. The Phase 1 through Phase 4 projects would provide data and analysis that would lead to the development of a comprehensive lake management plan in a future project. Phase 3 activities will include; conducting a water quality study of Long Lake, monitoring lake levels, precipitation monitoring, and conducting a lake district membership survey. Specific deliverables for this Phase 3 grant project will include: ? Summaries of the lake water quality study, lake level data, precipitation data, and the lake district membership survey. ? (If Phase 1 through Phase 4 projects are funded concurrently, a combined report may be produced to cover all four phase projects.) Special conditions for this grant project will include: 1. Monitoring of the lake levels must be referenced to Dept. of Natural Resources established benchmark(s) and a copy of the lake level data provided to the Water Management Specialist at Cumberland. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
