Lakes Planning Report

The Polk County Land and Water Resources Department proposes to conduct a comprehensive lake water quality monitoring, sociological survey, watershed evaluation, plant survey, etc. study of Largon Lake in Polk County. This project is proposed as a two phase comprehensive planning study. Phase 1 activities would include; compiling watershed map, conducting a landowner survey, watershed land use inventory, lake level and precipitation monitoring, sediment core study, fisheries analysis, macorphyte survey, and I & E program development. Ongoing project activities would be disseminated via newsletter(s), meeting(s), and news release(s), and compiling a final report. Specific deliverables for this Phase 1 grant project will include: ? A final report compiling all information collected during the project activities listed above. ? (If both Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects are funded concurrently, a combined report may be produced to cover both phase projects.) Special conditions for this grant project will include: 1. Monitoring of lake levels must be referenced to Dept. of Natural Resources established benchmark(s) and copy of lake level data provided to the Water Management Specialist at Cumberland. 2. Electroshocking survey and fish census data activities must be coordinated with DNR Fish Manager Rick Cornelius at Barron. 3. Sensitive area and macrophyte survey activities must be coordinated with DNR Fish Manager Rick Cornelius, Barron and Water Resource Specialist Jim Cahow at Spooner. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
