The work that went into both the lake study and this report was focused on addressing nuisance cyanobacteria blooms. In doing so this report covers several topics: An inventory of the lake and its surrounding land resources; 2000 Sociological Land Owner Survey; Water quality data and water chemistry testing results; Fish stocking history and WDNR fish management recommendations; and, Lake modeling
Grant Awarded
The Polk County Land and Water Resources Department proposes to conduct a comprehensive lake water quality monitoring, sociological survey, watershed evaluation, plant survey, etc. study of Largon Lake in Polk County. This project is proposed as a two phase comprehensive planning study. Phase 2 activities would include; comprehensive lake water quality monitoring, groundwater mapping and monitoring, trib. Monit. & flow measurements, lake modeling, hydro & nutrient budget development, shoreline video survey, and the development of a comprehensive lake management plan. Ongoing project activities would be disseminated via newsletter(s), meeting(s), and news release(s), and compiling a final report.
Specific deliverables for this Phase 2 grant project will include:
? A final report compiling all information collected during the project activities listed above and from the Phase 1 project.
The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
