LAC DU FLAMBEAU TRIBE: Lac du Flambeau Lakes AIS Education, Prevention & Planning Project

Purpose
The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians will sponsor a project to prevent additional aquatic invasive species from becoming established in Fence, Flambeau, and White Sand Lakes. The project includes: a public education campaign to aid in AIS recognition and awareness, development of an AIS educational video in cooperation with UW-Extension, implementation of a Clean Boat-Clean Water boat landing inspection program including inspections at the Flambeau, Fence & White Sand landings with spot checks at other public and private landings. AIS inspectors will monitor boat landings during weekends, holidays, and fishing tournaments. A rapid response plan will be developed to for use in the event that additional AIS are discovered in reservation waters. Inspectors will deliver suspected AIS to Rhinelander WI-DNR Service Center for vouchering A final report will be provided to the Department in both paper and electronic form including a summary of all activites conducted, the video and a copy of the Rapid Response Plan.
