NAMAKAGON LAKE ASSOCIATION, INC.: Eurasian Water Milfoil Watch & Education Project

Purpose

The Namakagon Lake Association, Inc. will conduct an Eurasian Milfoil Inspection and Monitoring Project and an Exotics Prevention Education Program on Namakagon Lake in Bayfield County. This project involves inspections of the water area in the vicinity of eight boat landing sites for the presence of the exotic aquatic plant, Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM). These inspections will be conducted in June, August, and October of 2003. Large, eye-catching, exotics prevention signs will also be constructed at boat landing sites on the lake. Special Conditions for this project include: 1. The project sponsor shall immediately contact Mr. Frank Koshere of the Department of Natural Resources (Superior Service Center, 1401 Tower Avenue, Superior, WI 54880, 715-392-0807) upon the discovery of any presence of Eurasian watermilfoil during these inspections, and: 2. The project sponsor shall coordinate any treatment, or other management response to the presence of EWM, with Mr. Koshere. Specific deliverables for this project include a summary report of the inspection findings and a status report on the boat landing signage. The DNR will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report.
