TOWN OF NAMAKAGON: Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention & I&E Project

Purpose

The Town of Namakagon proposes to conduct a Eurasian Milfoil Inspection and Monitoring Project and an Exotics Prevention Education Program on Namakagon Lake in Bayfield County. This project will involve inspections of the water area in the vicinity of eight boat landing sites for the presence of the exotic aquatic plant, Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM). These inspections will be conducted in May, July, September, and November of 2004. The Town, in cooperation with the Namakagon Lake Assoc., will publish and send a newsletter to approximately 350 lake assoc. members including information on the boat landing inspections and the I&E efforts in June, August, and October, 2004. Special Conditions for this project will include: * The project sponsor shall immediately contact Mr. Frank Koshere of the Department of Natural Resources (Superior Service Center, 1401 Tower Avenue, Superior, WI 54880, 715-392-0807) upon the discovery of any presence of Eurasian watermilfoil during these inspections, and: * The project sponsor shall coordinate any treatment, or other management response to the presence of EWM, with Mr. Koshere. Specific deliverables for this project include a summary report of the inspection findings and copies of the newsletters.
