BALSAM LAKE P & R DISTRICT: Balsam Lake Phase 2: Aquatic Plant Mgt. Plan Revision

Purpose

The Balsam Lake Protection & Rehabilitation District will to conduct a comprehensive two phase project to document current aquatic plant conditions in the lake and update (and change, if needed) their aquatic plant management plan. These projects are a part of the ongoing aquatic plant management planning process being conducted by the Lake District on Balsam Lake. Activities for this particular Phase 2 grant project include; an evaluation of the 2005 aquatic macrophyte community in comparison to previous survey data and an update of the Balsam Lake Aquatic Plant Management Plan, specifically addressing; (1) any projected changes in the treatment strategy for curly leaf pondweed, and (2) the inclusion of the proposed WDNR criteria to evaluate future Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) grants or treatments. Specific deliverables for this grant project include: A copy of the revised Balsam Lake Aquatic Plant Management Plan including the 2005 plant survey results, an analysis and evaluation of those results in comparison with previous survey findings, and incorporation of the new WDNR criteria to evaluate AIS grants and treatments. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
