Grant Awarded
The Spread Eagle Chain O' Lakes Association is sponsoring a project which will develop a lake management and implementation plan for the protection of South Lake. Water quality samples will be submitted to the State Lab Of Hygeine (SLOH) and will be submitted to the self-help program. An aquatic plant survey will be completed with the method in the proposal that has been approved by the Department. Data from the survey will be included in raw data tabular format, summarized in tabular and graph format, and a map will be created.
Voucher specimens will be collected, submitted to the Department for review and retained by the association. The watershed will be defined, sensitive areas (i.e. wetlands and steep slopes) will be mapped, and phosphorus loading will be estimated using WiLMS version 1.01 or more advanced model. Recommendations regarding impacts from recreational use will be made and included in the final report. Fish species will be based on previous DNR surveys, spawning beds and nursery locations will be identified and a long-term fish management plan will be developed. The South Lake Dam and the Bridge crossing will be inspected and recommendations for management will be made in the report. The education portion of the project will include a Canoe Classroom and will include the development of curriculum for education about South Lake.
