LAKE NOKOMIS CONCERNED CITIZEN'S INC.: Phase 1 - Lake Nokomis

Purpose

Lake Nokomis Concerned Citizens proposes to collect water quality, aquatic plant, aquatic invertebrate, fish and watershed information to augment the existing management plan (the FERC license to operate the dam) for the Nokomis Flowage (Nokomis, Bridge, and Deer Lakes). The focus of the data collection is to examine environmental impacts of the fluctuating water levels authorized in the FERC license. Phase 1 will focus on Lake Nokomis. 1. Applicant's consultant must submit an acceptable project Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan prior to project start up, to include at least data collection methods, data recording, sample collection and handling, and sample analysis. 2. Applicant must include in the educational component of the project activities to educate landowners about natural alternatives to riprap, seawalls and other shoreline structures. 3. Applicant and applicant's consultant must meet quarterly for the duration of the project with DNR representatives to review and discuss 1.) project status and previous quarter's activities 2.) data findings and observations 3.) data quality assurance 4.) preliminary conclusions 5.) next quarter's planned activities. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
