TOWN OF WEBB LAKE: Big Bear Lake Management Plan

Purpose

The Town of Webb Lake will conduct a comprehensive lake management planning project involving a study and evaluation of Big Bear Lake in Burnett County. Project activities include; conducting an in-lake water quality monitoring survey, conducting an aquatic plant survey, conducting a fish survey, conducting a shoreland habitat conditions survey, conducting a watershed analysis and developing a nutrient budget, developing a model for calculating lake response to phosphorus loadings, and the development of a comprehensive lake management plan. Specific deliverables for this grant project include: A comprehensive lake management plan for Big Bear Lake including the project results and the following components; (1). Watershed status and watershed practices for lake protection, (2). Shoreland management ideas, (3). Aquatic Plant Management Plan, (4). A fish management plan, and (5). A way to track lake progress and flag future potential problems. Special Conditions for this proposed grant project include: 1. The fishery survey may not be conducted without obtaining the proper permits and approval from Wisconsin DNR Fisheries Manager, Mr. Larry Damman, 810 West Maple Street, Spooner, WI 54801, 715-635-4089 2. The aquatic plant survey must be conducted utilizing methodology approved by the Department of Natural Resources, such as described in the reference work by Jessen and Lound (1962). The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), public meeting(s), and local newspaper articles.
