VAN VLIET LAKE ASSOCIATION: Van Vliet Lake Managment Small Planning Grant - DO Meter

Purpose

The Van Vliet Lake Association, Inc. will sponosor a project to purchase a Dissolved Oxygen (D.O.) meter and conduct D.O. monitoring on Van Vliet Lake. It has been recently determined, from on-going water quality sampling, that D.O. data should be collected in Van Vliet Lake as the lake is relatively shallow and vulnerable to winterkill and periodic summertime oxygen depletion and subsequent re-mixture. A meter will result in a reduction of time spent by VVLA members for measurements from titration method used now 1.5 hours down to minutes. This will allow for monthly and more frequent measurements. It will be used year-round. Results will be documented and entered into the DNR lakes database. A consultant will be available for education, training and help with analysis of the results. Products: 1. Purchase of a D.O. Meter under $1000 for the unit. 2. Purchase of accessories, membrane kits and maintenance supplies. 3. Get training and calibrations help from consultant. 4. Conduct verification sampling, as needed, with titration method to confirm that its operating correctly. 5. Enter the data in the DNR Lakes Database with the Self-Help Lake monitoring data. A final report including information on cost, contact person, problems and project results will be submitted to the Department in written and electronic form.
