KEYES LAKE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION: Florence Co. Lakes Protection through Education, Outreach, & Hands On Experience

Purpose

This project is sponsored by the Keyes Lake Improvement Association and will work in partnership with the Florence County School system to establish an adopt-a-lake program on Keyes Lake. The project will also create shoreline restoration education sites on Keyes Lake, Fisher Lake and Lake Emily. Students will collect information on the lakes and will also be involved in larger community based education through media contacts and other outlets. This project will create several lending libraries with reference materials on shoreline restoration and lake protection. Project Deliverables and Requirements include: 1. A summary of the following lake assessment items along with the actual data collected (when appropriate) will be provided to the Department: water quality data, macrophyte data, physical habitat assessment, maps of aquatic plants and exotic species monitoring. 2. Copies of shoreline restoration education materials that may be created during the project will be provided. 3. An executive summary of all the activities completed under this grant that includes copies of articles, presentation, web site information and any other educational/informational materials developed. A list of the location of all lending library locations will be provided to the Department in a web compatible format.
