SANDSTONE FLOWAGE ASSN: Sandstone Flowage Aquatic Plant Inventory

Purpose

There is insufficient data to effectively manage the aquatic plant community in Sandstone Flowage. Therefore the project goals will be to survey and document aquatic plant distribution with sufficient detail to allow for future planning, management and tracking of the aquatic plant community in Sandstone Flowage. The consultant will also collect landowner and water user information to allow the Sandstone Flowage Association to help develop realistic goals and objectives for aquatic plant management and protecting important habitat. The scope of the project will include the following aspects: a. Aquatic plants will be surveyed using the grid point intercept method recommended by the Department of Natural Resources. Depth and substrate type will be collected at each sample point along with GPS location of sampling points. b. Composite maps will be produced to show nuisance aquatic plant locations and density as well as different plant communities. c. The plan will assess possible causes for the relatively recent increases in plant related problems. d. Recommended action steps to limit and/or reduce future aquatic plant related problems as well as protecting natural habitat will be developed. e. Products and deliverables will include the data and final report. It will be made available on a CD, along with a hard copy and via email to the Association, public and Department of Natural Resources.
