WHITEWATER-RICE LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT: Rice Lake Water Quality Assessment

Purpose

Determination of hydrologic budget by: a) watershed delineation on a topographic map, b) collection of evaporation and precipitation data, c) daily staff gauge readings,d) groundwater flow determination through use of piezometers. Determination of phosphorus budget through: a) shoreline storm and snowmelt runoff phosphorus concentration, b) estimation of septic system, groundwater, and atmospheric phosphorus inputs,c) in-lake water-column phosphorus concentration monitored as described in application, d) estimation of internal phosphorus loading from sediments, e) monthly sampling of phosphorus outflow in surface water. Quantification of lake water chemistry, determined through periodic sampling and depth profiles as described in application. Trophic status evaluation relating hydrologic budget and phosphorus load to trophic condition of the lake. Annual report summarizing the data will be published afterthe end of the data collection phase. Information will disseminated by newsletter mailings, entire report mailings, public meetings, summary report mailings, local newspaper articles, and a comprehensive management plan.
