TOWN OF IRON RIVER: Long Lake AIS Monitoring & Education

Purpose

The Town of Iron River, Bayfield Co. is sponsoring an aquatic invasive species (AIS) project on behalf of the Long Lake Property Owners Association which includes watercraft inspection at two landings on the lake, in-lake monitoring for AIS, and education of lake residents, lake users, and the surrounding area. Methods include establishing a volunteer watercraft inspection program in accordance with WI-DNR and UW-Ext. Lakes "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" guidelines. It also includes in-lake monitoring for AIS via samples collected by volunteers and lake residents. Educational and informational materials will be distributed to a diverse audience including lake groups, businesses, landowners, lake users, and others via in-person delivery, mailings, phone calls, and word of mouth. Special Conditions for this project: 1. Project sponsor will immediately report any new AIS infestation to the appropriate DNR representative. 2. Follow all CBCW protocols including timely submission of all watercraft inspection data to the CBCW database. 3. Provide a list of all locations where printed signs or materials were distributed and the number of contacts made. 4. DNR to receive both paper and electronic (.pdf) copies of final report which includes documentation of all in-kind/volunteer contributions.
