Purpose

Rhinelander Water Resources Biologist and LTEs will review previous data/files and collect biological information (electrofishing surveys & macroinvertebrate samples), qualitative habitat measures, and seasonal continuous temperature monitoring data on 16 proposed stream sites within the Woods Creek Watershed (HUC 12 40301080106) in Florence County, Wisconsin. All reconnaissance and data collection will occur between May and October, 2015.

Objective

Woods Creek Watershed is currently considered under the Targeted Watershed Assessments list for having at least one site with high TP (>0.075) and a relatively "Good" biologic score. Water Evaluation Section is working on a process to develop new TP assessments and phosphorus Site Specific Criteria (SSC) for these types of waterbodies. Data collection will be done in 2015 so when the rule is adopted, these sites have data ready to be evaluated for an SSC. In addition, more than half the number of sites proposed have no data or data approximately 10 years old. 8 streams are listed as Class I Trout streams, while one is listed as Class II Trout stream. Updating water body assessment statuses and narratives and making management recommendations will be the primary goals. 16 possible sites have been identified, but could change during reconnaissance.
